Description of work undertaken during porting:
Xiaobo has been looking at linking Sakai into Exchange for calendar/ email functionality. He showed me he can query the exchange server using WebDAV which is using XML packets in HTML requests. However he can only get so far because we can't find any more documentation about the XML schema and request strings to use.
See http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/e2k3/e2k3/wss_references_webdav.asp

Tool use case:
Alternatively, couldn't we just buy these JSR-168 components ready made http://www.syncex.com/product.html. Matthew Dovey tried installing these into uPortal which took about 30 minutes to get it working (screenshot attached).
