ELVI: Portal (Web) Developer (Fixed-term)

Nottingham is at the forefront in the UK in its implementation of a ‘Virtual Research Environment’ (VRE) through the use of Portal technology for the benefit of its research community. The Research Support and Commercialisation Office requires a high calibre individual to support the University’s ‘ELVI’ Project (‘Evaluation of a Large-scale VRE Implementation’). The ELVI Developer is one of two posts, which are dedicated full-time to the project. This post will focus on developing the design, presentation, build, integration, testing, and other technical aspects of the VRE Components, prior to assisting with their take-up. The successful candidate will therefore need a strong background in customer-focused approaches to design and usability of IT solutions as well as proven technical skills and expertise.

Candidates should be educated to degree level or equivalent with a minimum of two years’ experience in web application development and its integration with database backends, including the use of JAVA (J2EE? ). They should also have a proven record of innovative development using XML, XSLT, SQL, JDBC and HTML. Any further experience of software development techniques – specifically using JavaScript? , Visual Basic, PHP, Perl, Ingres, SQL Server – will be highly beneficial.

Salary will be within the range £22,774 - £27,194 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (salary can progress to £32,471 per annum, subject to performance). This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years and is open to job share.
